Program Name: California Department of Education Tech Prep Demonstration Site Grant
Closing Date: May 3, 2010
Program Description:
The purpose of this grant is to fund the development of a high quality, industry-validated Career Technical Education (CTE) Program of Study. In addition, the grantee must select one of the following elements in which to further develop as a part of the grant:

·         Develop a program that results in students entering a college program that leads to a CTE teaching credential;

·         Develop and model a career awareness program for students in grades seven and eight; or

·         Develop and test an end-of-course assessment in the pathway identified and include an industry certification or license.

The work will be accomplished through a Tech Prep Consortium consisting of at least one secondary partner, one postsecondary partner, and one business and industry partner.

Program Description:
The Investing in Innovation Fund, established under section 14007 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), provides funding to support (1) local educational agencies (LEAs), and (2) nonprofit organizations in partnership with (a) one or more LEAs or (b) a consortium of schools. The purpose of this program is to provide competitive grants to applicants with a record of improving student achievement and attainment in order to expand the implementation of, and investment in, innovative practices that are demonstrated to have an impact on improving student achievement or student growth (as defined in this notice), closing achievement gaps, decreasing dropout rates, increasing high school graduation rates, or increasing college enrollment and completion rates.

Scale up Grants=$40,000,000-$50,000,000; Validation Grants = $17,000,000-$30,000,000; and Innovation Fund=$3,000,000-$5,000,000

Program Name: 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program (21st CCLC)
Closing Date: March 2007
Program Description: It is the intent of the Legislation to encourage schools and school districts to provide safe and educationally enriching alternatives for children and youth during non-school hours. The program creates incentives for establishing locally driven before and after school education and enrichment programs. In addition to continuing the provision of existing programs, the ASESP adds the following components: local law enforcement must be included as part of the local collaborative; computer training, fine arts and physical fitness may be included as enrichment activities; and programs may be in locations other than school sites.
Estimated Avg. Award: $130,000 per Elementary per year
Duration of Funding: Grantees awarded a 21st CCLC grant will receive five, one-year grants.

Program Description: Reading First is a federal program with the purpose of ensuring that all children in America learn to read well by the end of third grade. California’s approved plan accomplishes this purpose by providing sub grants to local educational agencies (LEAs) to implement fully the state-adopted reading program in kindergarten through grade three and to provide professional development in reading to kindergarten through grade twelve special education teachers.
